Once you have your gateway setup with a gateway ID and a token, it's time to add equipment to Critical Labs to monitor. Before you begin, make sure your gateway is on the same network as the equipment that you want to monitor and is not blocked from seeing equipment by firewalls.
Login to https://criticallabs.com and select your company. Then open the menu in the top righthand corner and select "Equipment".
Next, select the gateway from the "Gateways" list. Clicking on your gateway will open an "Equipment" screen that will give details about the gateway, including when it last reported and when the system expects it to report again.
Creating Templates for Equipment
Critical Labs runs on a library of equipment templates that speeds up the connection process. These templates contain the available Modbus registers on a piece of equipment and provide other information, such as a name, a unit, and sensible thresholds for alarming on a particular range of values.
When adding a new piece of equipment, you should first check to see if a library already exists for said equipment by doing a quick search in a new window under 'Equipment Libraries'. If you need to create a new a new library that doesn't exist, then select the plus button to the right of the "Company Templates" header.
From the "Add Modbus Template" page, search for an existing manufacturer or add a new one if necessary, then enter the model of the equipment. You can optionally add Tags to help describe the equipment and make it easier to filter on later. Then click "Save".
You will then be taken to the "Add Register" screen. You will need a list of registers for the equipment. This list can usually be obtained from the manufacturer. Fill out the Register form with as much information as possible and click "Add". Repeat this process for each register.
When adding a template, do your best to be descriptive with sensor names and units. This template is what the system uses to import future pieces of equipment into the system, and a sloppy template will lead to problems importing equipment down the road. Remember, you only have to create this template once, so make it count!
